May 14....Jan, Stephen and I flew to Tulsa and met my mother and went shopping for central vacuum systems for the house. We found one we liked and purchased it. We were surprised to find that the cost of the system installed into new construction is not much more than the cost of an upper end normal vacuum. Now it is a matter of coordinating the electrician, carpenters, and sheetrock hangers so the system can be put in at the right time. Arriving at the property just after a rain, we were surprised to find the framers were still there (they tend to leave at the first sign of rain). The concrete siding had been about half installed. It really looked better than we had planned. Not only that, but Judd had overestimated the amount of materials needed and the cost was less than half what was budgeted. |

| One of the reasons that Stephen came along on this trip was to help clean up some of the scrap lumber the framers had been throwing in front of the house. Luckily, my cousin owns a dump truck which we were able to borrow. Stephen, Jan and I worked for about 3 hours cleaning up one pile that completely filled the truck. We then burned three more piles of branches and trees that had been taken out to make room for the house. All in all, a successful day. | |

| May 16..........Mom sent a few more pictures today. These show the shingles finally on the roof. Some of the scaffolding has been removed from the front of the house. When I called Judd to talk about the progress, he agreed it is moving along pretty much on schedule. However, today the framers, plumbers, and roofers were all working at the same time. Not a particularly good scenario I found out. It seems each trade seems to want total control over the house at any given moment. There was quite a bit of tension especially between the roofers and the framers that had to do with some plumbing vents which were not in the correct place or not the correct size for the pitch of the roof. Anyway, they obviously got it worked out. Now the roofers should be out of the picture and the electrician can get started. The first of next week, the dirt guy should be back to dig the lines for the electric and plumbing hook-ups. After the electrician finishes, then Jan and I will put the insulation in the exterior walls while the deck crew starts working on the massive deck on the front of the house. In the meantime, here are a few pictures showing the roof. | |
