Week 16 - May 25-30, 2002

May 25....I do realize we are getting a little mixed up on our dates here, but Jan and I stayed up in Oklahoma for the full week, so after dropping Chris off at the airport on Sunday, we stayed until the following Thursday. Unfortunately, my cousin left town without leaving the keys to his dump truck, so Chris was not able to help us load it up one more time. I got the keys the next day, but that was a little late as the rain started and it made it a little hard to back the truck up to the house where we could load the trash out of the windows thereby avoiding having to heave it 20 feet into the air to get it into the truck. Jan and I did get a chance to meet with the electrician. After about 6 hours going over our electric needs, he left and we were able to get back to the work of cleaning up around the property. Chris even came over for several hours and helped with that task.

Sunday May 26th... We dropped Chris off in Tulsa and drove back home. Arriving at my mother's house, we found out about the bridge collapse by Webbers Falls. This is only about 13 miles from the property. Obviously, there was a lot of confusion and the traffic was backed up around Interstate 40 for miles. By Sunday afternoon, we were able to get the dump truck and park it in front of the house where the ground was somewhat dry. Jan and I loaded almost all of the lumber in front of the house and I was able to move the truck around to the back and within about 15 feet of the back wall. We then loaded the rest of the garbage lumber out the back window into the truck. That filled it to the point that I was losing lumber out of the back as I merrily drove down the highway to deliver the contents to my cousin. It is amazing how much room other cars give you when lumber comes flying out of the back of your vehicle.

As I sit here finishing this installment, of this adventure, I am reminded by Chris and Jan that I got a birthday present for my 50th birthday while I was in Oklahoma this time. An air compressor, hose, and a few other tools. Exactly what I needed. It let me build a couple of walls at night before the various crews showed up the next morning. I think Judd questioned some of my building techniques, but hey, the walls are still standing. Chris thought this paragraph might make a section all of its own in the stories section. His suggestion was to title it "Oklahoma 5-0" (from the Hawaii 5-0 television series) His closing remark?...... You guessed it-----"Build 'em Daddo!"

May 27th...We had our first fly-in visitor to the house. Gary Burkett flew in from Cookson in his Great Lakes. What a great airplane.
