Week 20 - June 24- June 28, 2002

June 28…Jan and I went to the house to check the progress of the electrician and make sure we had the next step lined up….. Satellite TV and internet connections. It seems that there is no end to the details involved in building. Of course, the electrician was a little over budget (about 50%), but we are getting used to that with the plumbers, excavators, framers, etc. It seems all the subs have a problem of some sort that takes them over budget. Luckily, we have anticipated that and adjusted early on. The past week, we also found another version of the Maple Forest house that has just been built. We met the couple building it and exchanged ideas and stories. Some of the things that we had put into our house were also incorporated into their house. They also needed a bedroom on the first floor. They also wanted Hardi Plank siding for low maintenance. They also eliminated the identical walls we had taken out on the second floor. They also went with wood cabinets instead of painted. It was eerie walking through their house, but at the same time, it gives us a preview of what is in store. They painted the entire house with the red color and used multi-colored composite shingles where the plan called for cedar shingles. As you can see from the photos below, it turned out great.

Jan had to leave to get our youngest son, Stephen enrolled at the University of Texas. I got to stay around for another week to start working on the northern deck and hopefully the western deck with the lake view as well.
