Week 30 - September 2-6, 2002

Charlie and I stayed on to clean while Chris went back to Houston and back to work. Labor Day and no one worked except us! On Tuesday the painter came to start the process of staining the concrete in the basement. We continued to scrape, vacuum and mop the floors to try to get as much of the sheetrock mud and dust out of the house before the trim work was started. With plywood subfloors on the main floor and upstairs it was quite a challenge. I also washed all the windows to clean off the wall texture that had been oversprayed. We had a friendly visitor spend the day… a huge walking stick! I understand they eat other insects so we were happy to let him stay awhile.

On Wednesday, Judd came to start the cabinets and Charlie had the task of sorting out the jamb extensions for all the windows. We're still not sure we have them all in the right places and some may have to be cut down to fit. Judd and Charlie framed out one window to show me how they are going to look and I really like the natural maple framing around the wood of the Andersen windows. Judd built one bathroom vanity and started on the laundry room cabinets. It is great to be able to design the drawers and cabinets on the spot. We even worked in a place for a drying rod over the utility sink.
By Thursday we were exhausted and ready for a break. We washed cars and did some more work on the airplane. All the hard maple trim has to be planed and since that is something that we can do and let Judd focus his time on the cabinetry, we were planing wood even as the sun set!
