Week 4 - March 4 - 8, 2002

March 4....

No work was done today due to a massive snow storm in the area on Saturday. The cold temperatures on Sunday didn't melt the snow and today warmed up just enough to melt the snow and make the ground too muddy to work in. Judd tells me that the dirtwork has been completed and as soon as it dries out a bit, the concrete guys will come in and form up the foundation. Jan and I are going up there tomorrow to talk to an insurance agent, get a water meter set and decide exactly on where the driveway will be placed. I hope to get pictures tomorrow.

March 5....

We went to look at the hole we are sinking money into. It is impressive don't you think?

The driveway will go into the North Western corner of the property and into the basement initially until the hangar is built.
Digging the basement caused a lot of rocks to surface. Jan is saving the larger ones like the ones in this photo.
I asked her how she planned to move it into position in the yard once the house was built and she said "I gotta have one of these!"
Finally, here is a new picture of the lakeview from the basement level. We hope the first and second floor levels will be even better.

We were happy with the progress so far, but the rain has slowed the pace down. We don't expect any real developments now until later next week. We did have a chance to meet with the plumber, dirt guys, and gas man as well as order the water and electric meters. Note: before the water meter can be set, a perc test has to be accomplished since we will be on a septic system instead of city sewer. Just part of the joys of living outside the city.

March 7th......

I thought it had been raining too much to get anything done and the Dwight had already taken his bulldozers off the site to do some other work, so I didn't really expect anything else to get done until the property dried out. Much to my surprise, my mom went by the property today (March 9th) and took pictures of what had to have been done on the 7th.

The driveway is now filled in and curves up and around the remaining trees where.......

WE HAVE STEEL AND CONCRETE!  This is what we have kind of been looking toward that would signal to us that "it's too late to back out now!" I guess I didn't really expect to see steel rods sticking out of the foundation. I suppose I just thought somehow the walls would magically stick to the foundation. (Probably a good thing I hired Judd and Calvin rather than someone that would have done it my way, huh?)

We look forward to seeing what next week will bring. I am at a tradeshow in Houston and can't leave for three more days and even then, I have to go fly a three day trip for Continental so it will be the end of next week before I really get a chance to see it in person. We'll let you know..............
