Elders' Lessons
When selecting men to be elders, it is not enough that we look at the character qualifications in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. We must consider the question: Are they qualified to do the WORK? This evening, the Lord willing, we will consider the work qualifications for men who serve in this vital role. If you have missed any of the lessons on elders or wish to review them, we encourage you to obtain a copy from John Whitehead. It is important that qualified men be selected.
Accepting Responsibility (July 18, am) - Encouraging men and women (potential elders wives) to accept the responsibility to serve if qualified, either now or in the future.
Role of Elders (July 25, am) - The root of "elders" is in O.T. history. The role "elders" served in national Israel and a brief look at their role as indicated in the terms used to describe them in the N.T.
Then Let Them Serve (Aug. 1, am) - It is the congregation's responsibility to select its representatives. This lesson discusses guidelines for fair and honorable selection of qualified men.
Character Qualifications (Aug. 8, pm) - A brief overview of the character qualifications in 1 Tim. 3 and Tit. 1.
Character Qualifications II (Aug. 15, pm) - Discussion of "faithful children" and "elder."
Work Qualifications (Aug. 22, pm) - Men must be qualified not only in character, but ability and willingness to do the work.
"Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers..." Acts 20:28, NASB. srf

Maps
I mentioned in class last Wednesday evening that one could access Bible maps from the church's web site. Well, it is not as simple as I thought or made it sound! Thanks to a note from Glenda Wilson, who went to the site to check it out, I discovered I need to clarify a bit. Note: This has been corrected with a new link on the web site under Links (wlo)

You can access maps from the link "Interactive Bible" (Steve Rudd's site). There is an icon there for maps. Follow instructions.

Watch the Goshen site (accessed through the Baker's Evangelical Dictionary link). When you click on Baker's Evangelical link, you will be taken to the Goshen web site. Click on "other resources." They do not have maps yet, but say they are coming soon.

This URL has a wealth of Biblical Study resources: http://www.gate.net/~jenkins/. Go down to "Great Bible Maps." When you click that link it will take you to another web site. Scroll down until you come to a map that interests you. Download it. Just to experiment I downloaded Joshua's conquest of the land. It downloaded in a short time and came up beautiful in Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat (necessary for PDF files), you can download a copy free at http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html, or just click on the Adobe link at the site you are taken to when you click on "Great Bible Maps." Adobe Acrobat is not free, but the Adobe Acrobat Reader is and it is all you need.

A warning: let the reader beware! That is, there is other information that can be downloaded at this site that promotes error! "But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;" 1 Thessalonians 5:21, NASB. srf
