Sunday Evening . . . ? srf

IS IT YOUR PRACTICE TO ASSEMBLE WITH THE CHURCH ONLY ON SUNDAY MORNING?

If so, please accept this simple but direct challenge to CHANGE and begin assembling on Sunday evening also. Why?
You need a closer tie with the saints, and you can develop that by being with them in all their assemblies, greeting them, and participating with them in the work and worship of Christ.

We are to serve one another, and your presence is an encouragement to others and thus a way to serve in the kingdom of Christ.
You need to grow, and the worship and study in these assemblies are designed to edify you. You miss valuable lessons by failing to be here. For example, in a recent Sunday evening lesson we studied "Capital Punishment." Is it wrong to take the life of a murderer? Is all killing murder? Can a Christian support capital punishment? Can you answer these questions biblically? Another study dealt with the phrase, "impossible to renew to repentance" found in Hebrews 6:6. What does that mean? Are there some people who have gone so far astray they cannot repent and be saved? Does this help a teacher in any way? Chuck Durham recently finished our gospel meeting with an encouraging and interesting lesson on Sunday evening. If you were not here, you missed a spiritual treat. These and other beneficial lessons can be gained from the Sunday evening lessons. You can increase your knowledge and your spiritual strength  by partaking of the spiritual food provided in these Sunday evening assemblies.

You need to be committed to your responsibilities. If you are a member of the church here, you are part of "God's college" in this community. What kind of student would he be who attended school only half the time? If a member, you are part of "God's team" in this locality. What kind of a football player would show up at only half the games? What kind of "Christian" attends only one assembly a week (or, in some cases, not even every week)?

You have reasons for not being here? OKŠjust be sure the Lord is pleased with them. We "cannot be his disciple" if we make excuses that REFLECT A FAILURE TO TREAT CHRIST AND HIS WORK AS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE. "But they all alike began to make excuses...Then the head of the household became ANGRY and said '...none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.'" Luke 14:18,21,24. "Now great multitudes were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them, 'If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. So therefore, no one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions. Therefore, salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned? It is useless either for the soil or for the manure pile; it is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.'" (Luke 14:25-35, NASB). Is one a "Christian" at all who gives the Lord anything but his best? Jesus said, "Seek FIRST His kingdom and His righteousness..." (Mat. 6:33). "Good and faithful slaves" will serve their Master to the best of their ability (Mat. 25:14-30). Remember, the Lord will judge our "excuses."

Where will you be this evening at 5 p.m.? Let me encourage you to nurture your spiritual growth, serve your fellow Christians, and demonstrate your love for the Lord by being with the saints as they assemble to worship the Redeemer. *
