A Good Meeting srf

What Will Make a Good Meeting?

Good Preaching

The Word of God must be preached in clarity. Joe Fitch is a knowledgeable teacher and will come prepared.

Good Attendance

Poor attendance can actually add an element of discouragement to a meeting. Good attendance by those on the "team" speaks interest and commitment.

Good Worship

Good singing, thoughtful prayers, and reverent attention to God's Word will honor God and edify the worshippers.
Let's have a good meeting!

Building Better Families
[Warren Berkley is a gospel preacher in McAllen, Texas. The following is an interesting article about a father's sense of priorities and the impact on his son. As you read it, think about the potential impact your choices will have upon your family, even down to your grandchildren. "For I have chosen him (Abraham, srf), in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice..." Gen. 18:19. srf]

What A Simple Privilege

Judson Woodbridge, now deceased, was a gospel preacher in Ft. Smith, Arkansas during World War II. He received letters from several service men who left Ft. Smith for military duty during the war. I've recently received a copy of what one young man wrote to bro. Woodbridge one Wednesday evening from San Diego. "Park Hill" is a reference to the Park Hill church of Christ.

"Well its Prayer Meeting night and I dont have the privilege of being there. I wish I did, but that will have to wait. My prayers are with you and yours and Park Hill. I am just there in thought. I am sorry I didn't write sooner, but we have been pretty busy traveling, etc. It took us four days to get here. It will take me longer to get use to it. This camp is an anti-aircraft replacement center. It is situated right smack on the Pacific Ocean. I can see ocean as I step out of my barracks. Everything is green out here, the grass and flowers, etc. It's very beautiful, but I'll still take ole' Arkansas and home folks."

This soldier could think of nothing on Wednesday night but "Prayer Meeting." After the war he came home to his wife and they had a baby boy. They instilled in him the simple privilege of being with Christians on Wednesday night for what was called "Prayer Meeting" then. The little boy is now a grandfather attempting to instill in his grandchildren the same simple privilege of Wednesday night Bible study.

I am that little boy. The above quote was pulled from a letter my father sent to Judson Woodbridge in the 1940's.

Resolution Tips - What Works For Me
Resolution:
More Regular, Purposeful Bible Study - Psa. 1:1-3; 119:97-99 (Suggestion: Read these verses again.)
Tips: (submitted by your brothers and sisters in Christ): Study during my lunch hour...Read and meditate on the bus...After a particular bible study, make a sermon on it to share with others...Set up a selected time each week for bible study with children...Teach - it forces you to study...I found that if I start a study involving others it makes me more motivated to study because I know other people are depending on me to understand the scriptures.
