Steamed Up Over A Sermon? John Clark
Did you ever get really "steamed up" over a sermon? If you
have not you have missed a fascinating human experience. I have some "what to do in
case of" thoughts on the matter. Next time you get upset at a lesson you hear, try
these things:
1. First, you could try being thankful. Anything that really stirs us up and gets us
thinking may be that "blessing in disguise" that people talk about. Remember,
when an oyster gets irritated he produces a pearl! If what you heard was wrong it will do
you good to think about and answer the error in your own mind.
2. Check your Bible. Be concerned enough to "dig" it out for yourself. Don't
assume that you know everything. You may well have overlooked something. Study! Search!
See for yourself! Many close their minds when they should open their Bibles. "He that
answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him" (Prov.
18:13).
3. Check yourself. "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own
selves" (2 Cor. 13:5). It is not easy to do for obvious reasons. Seeing our own
failure and faults is like the headlights in your car--the other fellows always seem more
glaring than your own.
4. Discuss the matter with the one who taught it. Perhaps you did not hear all that was
said. Get your attitude right. Approach with the desire to help and be helped. Realize
that it is not just your own soul involved. Any gospel preacher who is what he ought to be
will welcome such discussions. The truth is worth every effort we can make to find it and
be directed by it.

Resolution Tips - What Works For Me
Resolution: Seek Avenues to Serve Brethren - 1 Pt. 4:7-11; Mt. 25:44,45
(Suggestion: Read these verses again.)
Tips: (submitted by your brothers and sisters in Christ): Pick up Sister Bobbitt
once a month. Pick up the absentee list on Sunday night and make one call a week. My
suggestion is to increase your love for others by working on lowering arrogance, and put
less emphasis on self, materialism, and pride...Meditate on your care for others and think
always upon the sacrifice of Christ.

Building Up One Another
SALVATION: GOD'S PART AND MAN'S PART John Whitehead
God created the world and gave Adam and Eve the garden of Eden to live in. Here God
provided for their every need and gave them commandment to keep (Genesis 2:1617). They
failed to keep God's commandment and sin entered into the world. Because of sin God drove
man out of the garden (Genesis 3:2224). Sin or iniquity has always separated man from God
(Isaiah 59:12).
Yet, despite of our sin, God has devised a plan by which we can be saved from our sins
through a savior (John 3:1617). He sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles as a guide (John
16:13). He gave the gospel as the power of salvation (Romans 1:16). He provided atonement
of our sins by the blood of Christ (Romans 5:9; Colossians 1:14).
From the gospel we see that God has done His part and more for us. Let's turn to the
gospel to see what is required of man to be saved from sin. One must first hear the gospel
in order to be free from sin (Romans 10:17; John 8:32). Next we must believe in the good
news of Jesus Christ (John 20:31). The gospel commands all to repent (Luke 13:3; Acts
17:30). We must confess in faith that Jesus Christ is the Lord (Romans 10:910; Matthew
10:32). Baptism is essential to salvation. One must be baptized so that their sins can be
washed away (Acts 2:38 & 22:16; Mark 16:16). Finally, we must live faithful until
death to receive victory over sin (Revelation 2:10).
Let us not ignore the gracious gift of God, the gospel of salvation. As children of God we
need to prove ourselves workers in God's kingdom by the study of the word of truth (2
Timothy 2:15 & 3:1617). Surely, since God has dedicated an eternity to the plan of
salvation, we can set some time aside for the equipping of ourselves in the instruction of
righteousness.
