Building Better Families srf
Biting and Devouring One Another
"But if you bite and devour one another, take care lest you be consumed by one another." (Gal.5:15) Yes, this was written to brethren in the churches of Galatia. But do you think it is any less true of families? If all one hears is criticism, complaining, griping, fault-finding, will it not destroy their mate‹their self esteem, their love, their desire to please, their desire to make this marriage workŠ? Is there no room for kind words, compliments, a "thank you," "I appreciate you," etc.? "Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad." (Pro. 12:25,NKJV)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But if you bite and devour one another, take care lest you be consumed by one another."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You canıt you do anything rightŠ" "Youıre stupid.." "Why didnıt youŠ" "Iım sorry I married youŠ" "Youıre uglyŠ" These and other such harsh remarks may be regretted later, but they can leave scars even after the wound is healed. "There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." (Pro. 12:18)

You donıt need anyone to come between you and your mate. You can destroy your relationship by yourself. You can kill the love you once shared. You can destroy the respect vital to a healthy relationship. Just keep "biting and devouring." Destruction is sure to follow.

Additional Deacon
Regarding the selection of an additional deacon:

The elders have agreed to ask the members to consider the selection of one man for appointment as a deacon. During the past several months we have lost two of our deacons, one having left the congregation and the other, Gregg Hutson, having been appointed as an elder. Although we have done some re-aligning of the remaining deaconsı responsibilities, there is a need for another deacon to be responsible for maintenance and repairs relating to the building and grounds. These would be matters which are beyond the scope of the work done by Bro. Ennis Osteen for routine cleaning and lawn maintenance. The new deacon will be responsible for taking note of things which need to be done to the building and grounds, whether it is something he sees on his own, or, something reported to him by others; then, either handle the matter himself, or, arrange for it to be done by others.

We would like to start the selection process by asking members to submit to the elders the name of any man you deem qualified for this position. However, we ask that anyone submitting a name use the following criteria:
... Consider the qualifications for a deacon as discussed in both 1st Timothy 3 and Acts 6. Any man qualified to be a deacon must meet not only the character qualifications, but must also be willing to do the work after his appointment.
... Consider the manıs ability to carry out the responsibili-ties for which he is being selected. Think about whether his background and knowledge of construction and/or building maintenance would make him a good selection.
... Before submitting a name, ask the man if he is willing to accept the responsibility, if appointed.

If you know of a man you think fits these criteria, and you would like for the congregation to consider him for the position of deacon, then, during the next couple of weeks please give his name to one of the elders. Again, we ask that you speak with the man first and get his consent to have his name put forward.

If you have any questions about this, please ask one of the elders.

What did Luke say he was writing about when he wrote the gospel of Luke? Where did he get his information? How did go about his inquiry? Why did he take the time and expend the effort to write about this to Theophilus? These things he explains in the first four verses of his letter. This was the subject of the sermon last Sunday morning (February 27).
