The Untold News - srf
The "news" portion of a church bulletin serves to keep us informed concerning members. Some things, however, are left untold. If the "news" laid bare the real reasons behind some folks absence, it might read like this...

Brother I. M. Weak wasn't here last Wednesday because he didn't believe it was important nor that he would be missed.

Sister A.M. Slipping has been with us very seldom lately because she has let problems in her life cause her love for the Lord to grow cold.

Brother Covetous will continue to be with us only once a week, possibly once very two or three weeks, because he is not convinced the Lord will keep His promise to provide if he puts Him first.

We have been told that the Carnal family will not be at the gospel meeting because of sports activities.

Brother Nerd was not able to get up in time to be here Sunday morning because he stayed up most of the night fooling with his computer.

Brother and Sister U. R. Lukewarm are just not interested enough to make the effort to be here Sunday evenings and Wednesday evenings.

Brother Selfish wasn't here last week and indicated he didn't care how his absence affected others and that he preferred to be doing other things.

"Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts; and then each man's praise will come to him from God." 1 Cor. 4:5, NASB.

"And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do." Heb. 4:13, NASB.

Why The Difference?
A man can get out of bed at three o'clock on Saturday morning and go fishing, but when you talk to him about Sunday morning Bible classes, he can't get up that early. Why the difference?

A man can be on the membership committee at the civic club and canvass among his friends for prospective members, but says he is not good at meeting people and can't make the right approach when asked to do personal work for the Lord. Why the difference?

A man can go a hundred miles on Friday night to a ball game, but is too tired to get out for worship on Wednesday night. Why the difference?

A man can take his family to the circus and spend considerable money, but can't afford to give more than [ten dollars] to the Lord. Why the difference?

A man can take an aspirin and go to work despite an annoying headache, but a similar headache is considered a good reason for missing worship. Why the difference? . . . [author unknown. Brackets are my changes. srf]

"But they all alike began to make excuses..." Luke 14:18, NASB.

"I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds." Jeremiah 17:10, NASB.

"On the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus." Rom. 2:16, NASB.

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I would that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth." Revelation 3:15,16, NASB.
