Game #6 Report (8/20/00)
DOGS SKATE TO A TIE - GRIFFS WIN SHOOTOUT
Report - It's tough to lose in a shootout, especially after holding a 4 zip lead - but the Ice Dogs played one of their best games yet against the seasoned Griffs to end regulation play tied at 5-5. This game benchmarks the teams improved play - and without two of the Dogs leading scorers - Tony Valdavia and Jiri Brejnik ! Nothing to be ashamed of guys. After the first 5 shootout shots - the game was still tied. The Griffs were able to finally sneak one in during sudden death to take the SO win.
Defense was finally able to keep the center lanes clear of bad guys - all Griff goals came on outside shots and one clean break-away, no rebound goals and no shooters were allowed to score in close. Patrick Anderson scored on 2 great shots, Terry Hurd and Bruce Maeir each provided a key score to put the Dogs up 4-1 at the end of the second period. The Griffs shortened their bench and came back hard in the third to pull ahead 5-4. With 1:39 to play, Patrick smacked in a left lane slapshot to tie. 15 seconds later, he took the same exact shot, ringing the goal post - missed by an inch !
Considering the Griffs 12-0 first ever Ice Dog rout - we've come a long way baby. Keep it going guys -we'll find our peak play zone soon. More later ... ...
