Databases for Starry Night Pro


Following are several databases for Starry Night Pro that I have collected. Most of these came with Starry Night Pro 4.5 but were omitted from Starry Night Pro. If you have SNP 5.0, you can download them here and get them back into your program. I have made some corrections to the ones where I found errors ( these are noted in the comments below).

To use any of these in SNP, just download the file, unzip it to your desktop and then copy it into the "Sky Data" subfolder in your Starry Night Pro installation. You will have to navigate to the directory where you installed SNP and then open the "Sky Data" subfolder. In some cases, these will replace an existing version of the file. ( You can make a backup copy of the corresponding ".ssd" file before you copy if you want to have a backup.) If you find any more errors in any of these, send me an email ( henry@spacejunkies.info ) and I will fix and re-post.

Double Star Club Catalog (revised)

A catalog of all the double stars that make up the Astronomical League Double Star Club. In addition to correcting a couple of errors in the SNP 4.5.2 version of this database, I have added additional data including the magnitude, separation and position angle of each double/triple/quadruple star system. Also, I have added the cross matching information from the Orion Intelliscope DSC controller, specifically the Orion ST catalog number for the star. If you are using the Orion Intelliscope system, you can just input the ST number from this catalog and it will guide you right to the correct star. Click here to download the Database.

Herschel 400 Club Catalog (revised)

A catalog of all the objects that make up the Astronomical League Herschel 400 Club. I have corrected several errors in the original database that was enclosed with SNP 4.5.2. In SNP, this database was not included with the retail set. Click here to download the Database.

Urban Club

A catalog of all the objects that make up the Astronomical League Urban Club. This is just a copy of the version that came with SNP 4.5.2, without any editing yet. In SNP, this database was not included with the retail set. Click here to download the Database.

Uppsala General Catalogue of Galaxies (UGC)

A catalog of all the objects that make up the Uppsala Catalog of Galaxies. This is just a copy of the version that came with SNP 4.5.2, without any editing yet. In SNP, this database was not included with the retail set. Click here to download the Database.

Caldwell Club (UGC)

A catalog of all the objects that make up the Astronomical League Caldwell Club. This is just a copy of the version that came with SNP 4.5.2, without any editing yet. In SNP, this database was not included with the retail set. Click here to download the Database.

NGC-IC Catalog (revised)

A revised catalog of all the objects that make up the NGC-IC database for SNP. Both the original version that came in SNP 4.5.2 and the version 5.0 catalogs had a serious error in the position of NGC 4666. I have corrected that error so that it plots correctly in SNP. This will replace the one that came with your retail set. Click here to download the Database.
