Goals of HOLY TRINITY EPISCOPAL SCHOOL In order to fulfill its mission of providing an excellent, challenging education and serving as a model for other schools, HOLY TRINITY EPISCOPAL SCHOOL will set high standards, goals, and objectives at the outset. 1. Student Quality Goal: To attract and retain capable students with a variety of backgrounds, interests, and talents whose common denominator is the desire and ability to succeed in and benefit from a rigorous academic program. Measurements: At least 5% minority enrollment; 5% of students receiving financial assistance; student performance in the 90th percentile on standardized achievement tests. 2. Class Size Goal: To have a small class size and low student-teacher ratio to maximize individual attention. Measurement: Maximum class size of 18-20 in grades K-S; 20-22 in grades 6-12; student-teacher ratio of 9 to 1. Ultimate enrollment of 500-750 students divided into 3 groups so division heads know every child in their division. 3. Faculty Quality Goal: To attract and retain an outstanding faculty recruited nationally. To employ individuals who meet the standards of the accrediting agencies: the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest, The Southwest Association of Episcopal Schools, and the National Association of Episcopal Schools. To establish an evaluation system which fosters professional development of all employees and ensures that their responsibilities are fulfilled in an excellent and effective manner. Measurements: At least 50% of faculty with master's degrees from prestigious universities; a minimum average of five years teaching experience; teachers with majors in their subject matter; nucleus of teachers recognized at a regional or national level with their professional reputations enhanced through published research papers or conference presentations; 100% of faculty computer literate. 4. Curriculum and Programs Goal: To develop a challenging, well balanced curriculum to stimulate the natural curiosity of students and to provide them with a mastery of fundamental knowledge and skills. The HOLY TRINITY EPISCOPAL SCHOOLS will provide an excellent education in subjects vital to students' future success. All children will learn and examine a common core of knowledge, skills, and principles from each of the following areas: 1. English (reading, writing, spelling, grammar and spelling) 2. Mathematics 3. History 4. Science 5. Foreign Language 6. Geography 7. Art 8. Music 9. PE / Athletics. 10. Computer Science 11. Drama 12. Theology & EthicsIn addition, Holy Trinity Episcopal School seeks to: - instruct reading in the lower grades with phonics, using interesting, classic and content-rich stories. - develop state-of-the-art programs in: Mathematics: Multi-Language program K-12; Elementary lab-science; Artists-in-residence program; Theology and ethics; Clear student assessments measured against the best international programs. - define a graduated/progressive curriculum that moves smoothly from one year to the next without significant review/repetition. - require all students to reach a defined level of mastery before advancing to the next grade level, as measured by independent standardized tests. - teach proper handwriting, spelling and grammar. -integrate computers into the curriculum as teaching tools where they can be used effectively. - encourage field trips into the community as a part of the educational process. Measurements: Average student achievement in the 90 percentile on standardized tests in various subjects; demonstrated mastery through projects, presentations and other vehicles in various subjects; placement of students in colleges and universities of their choices; students demonstrating enthusiasm for learning. 5. Capital Funding Goal: To fund pre-opening expenses and capital improvements through grants from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Measurements: Incur no debt in initial phase or, if financing is necessary, have debt secured by pledges and sureties independent of market fluctuations. 6. Operating Policies Goal: To provide for quality instructional programming and competitive salaries and benefits on a cost effective, break-even basis. Measurements: (a) Tuition and fees set to cover 100% of operating budget by the fifth year (b) Control expenses to keep tuition at a reasonable level; (c) Offer competitive salaries and benefits for administrators and faculty - initially at the median of ISAS (d) Efficient administrative structure. 7. Interface with Local Community Goal: The school, Its students, faculty, and programs will become an integral part of the Houston area. Measurements: (a) Head of School will communicate with other educational leaders in the community and region. (b) Create summer school programs to include teachers and students external to the school community. (c) Create community service and community education programs for Holy Trinity Episcopal School students. 8. Accreditation Goal: To become accredited by the most rigorous accreditation agencies, including the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest, the Southwest Association of Episcopal Schools, and the National Association of Episcopal Schools. |
