1999 WATSON/SOMERSET PARKINSONS WORLD "HOME COURSE"

GOLF TOURNAMENT

DIRECTED BY THE HOUSTON AREA PARKINSONS SOCIETY (HAPS) GOLF CLUB

DEAR 1998 WORLD HOME COURSE GOLF TOURNAMENT WINNER:

ITS WORLD TOURNAMENT TIME AGAIN! GRAB THOSE CLUBS AND HEAD FOR YOUR WINTER GOLF PRACTICE AREA. (KITCHEN, GARAGE, DRIVING RANGE ETC.AND START PRACTICING. TAKE YOUR CAREGIVER ALONG. THEY NEED TO GET READY FOR THEIR TOURNAMENT TOO.

THE 1999 TOURNAMENT STARTS ON MAY 2, AND ENDS MIDNITE JULY 10. SOMERSET PHARMACEUTICALS, INC. HAS AGREED TO SPONSOR THE TOURNAMENT AGAIN WITH A MIMIMUM PURSE OF $5,000.

ENCLOSED ARE THE 1999 TOURNAMENT RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS. THERE ARE A FEW CHANGES SO READ THEM OVER. NOTE THE WEEKLY TOURNAMENTS AND OTHER FUN WAYS TO WIN AWARDS.

IN 1998, 92 GOLFERS SUBMITTED 456 ATTESTED SCORE CARDS, AND COLLECTED OVER $14,000 IN AWARDS. I THINK WE CAN EASILY INCREASE PARTICIPATION AND WIM4IN05 THIS YEAR. TELL YOUR FRIENDS THAT QUALIFY ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT. WE CAN BUILD OUR TOURNAMENT FOR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED GOLFERS INTO AN EVENT WE WILL ALL LOOK FORWARD TO AND BE PROUD OF.

GOLF TOURNAMENT

INFORMATION AND RULES OF PLAY

ENTRY

1. You must play at least two nine-hole rounds between MAY 2, and JULY 10, 1999 on the course of your choice to qualify for World Tournament Awards.

2. There is no entry fee. however you will need to pay your green fee to the course of your choice. Upon completion of your round mail or fax; your completed and attested score card to:

COURSE SET UP

1. Play on a regulation PGA approved course. Your course will consist of: 7 par 3's of 140 yards for men and 120 yards for women; one par 4 of250 yards for men and 200 yards for women and, one par 5 of 350 yards for men and 300 yards for women.

2. Set up on the par 3's is not difficult. Most golf courses have 150-yard markers to the green. Just step off 10 paces (men) or 30 paces (women) on each par 3.

3. Now the par 4. Most courses have 250 yard markers which can be used as the starting point for the par 4 bole for Men. Ladies hit from 200-yd. marker.

4. Lastly, the par 5. You will probably find at least one hole on the course that measures very close to the 350 yards (men) or 300yards (women) required and just a few paces back or forward win put you exactly where you need to be.

EXAMPLE: Hole 6 measures 335 yards from the red tee markers. Men would take 15 paces back from the marker while women would take 35 paces forward.

NOTE: The Golf Professional at your preferred course will probably be glad to Assist you in setting up your course.

PLAYIING RULES

1. USGA rules govern all play except where noted below.

a.) Winter rules apply. You may improve lie one club length on fairway or rough. (You can not move a ball in the rough to the fairway or vice versa.)

b.) All balls landing in sand traps or in a precarious position such that playing the shot could cause player to fall, will be dropped with no penalty in a safe hitting area in back of the trap, away from the green and to an area not closer to the pin, or m a more advantageous position.

c.) On any ravine or water hazard closer than 30 yards: Player has the option to pick up ball and drop on the other side, one club length from hazard. in line with pin and take one stroke penalty.

d.) Near and on the green: After ball has been hit to an area near or on the green, and course rules or physical impairments prevent player from chipping or Putting, his caregiver may hit for him with no penalty.

 SCORE CARDS

1. Maximum strokes that can be entered on card on any one par 3 is (7), on the par4 (8), and on the par 5 (10).

2. Score card must show corrected par of each hole.

3. Score card must have attester's name, address and phone number.

4. Score card or an attached note must have PRINTED name of player, address and phone number.

6. Player can play as many certified rounds and turn in as many resulting certified scorecards as they wish, but they should clearly indicate which two rounds are to be entered In the overall World Tournament.

FLIGHTS

1. Player's awards will be based on gross or net score depending on gross score finish. 

System used: Awards for top 60% will be on a graduated scale from first place to last place based on gross scores. For the rest of the players, a modified Callaway handicap system will be used to determine awards.

2. Ladies will have their own division if at least 10 ladies compete in the tournament. Otherwise, they will compete with the men.

3. Caregivers will compete in their own tournament and awards will be based on same formula as player’s tournament.

AWARDS

1. Winners will be required to provide proof of eligibility.

2. Attesters may be contacted to confirm score.

3. If a discrepancy or other problem arises on a player's score card, the player involved may be ask to play on the same course with a neutral attester. In such cases the player would have up to three chances (if needed) to play a round in less than 115% of the tournament round to verily his tournament score. Failure to validate score could result in disqualification

4. Money and or trophy awards will be made. The number and value of the awards will be determined by the number of entries. On ties, the award will be equally divided. Special awards will be made for such accomplishments as:

* Most certified rounds played by an Individual (first, second, and third places).

* Most certified rounds played by a group (such as a club, city or area).

* Most club members playing two rounds or more.

* Best round each seven days starting on MAY 2 and ending on JULY 10, 1999.

* Most certified rounds played on any one course.

5. A certification committee will make final decisions on any appeals or rules made up of non-playing representatives of HAPS Golf Club.
