Troop Information
Troop
27 is a moderate sized troop of about 20. This environment allows the
Scouts to get to know each other. Our size also allows for swifter advancement
because their is less opposition when running for a troop position that is needed to
advance to reach higher ranks.
We go on campouts all across Texas about once a
month with the hill country being one of our favorite places. These
campouts are decided by the elected Patrol Leaders Council in the spring of the
year, which is always looking for new ideas. These campouts are put to a
specific theme to teach a merit badge. Merit badge counselors are always
willing to help you out if you need it. We also go to a Winter Camp after
Christmas so that Scouts can earn 3-4 merit badges. We attend different summer camps each
year all over the United States like Camp Tom Hale in Oklahoma, Camp Alexander
in Colorado, Camp Orr in Arkansas, Camp Daniel Boone in North Carolina, and the
list continues to grow. These summer camps are decided by the Patrol
Leaders Council.
For older Scouts we have a venture patrol, as an addition to
regular troop activities, that goes to places like Philmont Scout Ranch in New
Mexico, the Tetons, Big Bend, Sea Base in the Bahamas and many more.
Activities that they do include backpacking,
repelling and rock climbing, white water rafting, etc. These places are
decided by the Scouts of the venture patrol. These are just a few things
younger Scouts have to look forward to as they gain experience in basic and
advanced skills.
